The Importance of Clean Hands

PictureIt is important to keep hands clean
It is important to clean hands if we have poor health, for whatever reason. Hands are used for everything, from washing, to dressing, to eating, to working. Along the way, they collect germs from all sorts of places.

When we are unwell, whether we have a cold or cancer or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), we have more germs on our hands. We pick up the germs of others through handshakes, taps in wash basins or handrails on an elevator.

In Hong Kong, there were ladies whose job it was to clean the handrails at railway stations to try to stop cross contamination so that people would not get ill. Cutting down on germs is important to staying healthy.

When we are very ill and in bed, we are not continually washing our hands. It is enough to get to the bathroom occasionally. A quick rinse under the tap and quickly back to bed. Germs build up on our hands.

Generally speaking, I find women better at keeping their hands clean. They wash their hands when doing the washing up. Women may give their hands a good wash in the bathroom. They also spend some time in the laundry doing the washing. There is always a job needing to be done with water.

Men on the other hand, tend not to do these mundane chores and are not as aware of keeping their hands clean. Men should always give their hands a good wash after going to the toilet, a proper wash.

Washing the Hair

When we wash our hair, our hands get a good clean. However many people do not wash their hair every day. Also many men do not have hair to wash. So it is very important to wash your hands every day. If you do it in the shower you can give a good scrub all the way up the forearm as well. Keep those germs at bay.

Shaking Hands
Men tend to shake hands, a good way to pass on some germs. Women tend not to shake hands so much.

Premature Babies

In a hospital where their premature babies were cared for the babies kept getting infections. It was traced down to the nurses having long fingernails. All sorts of bugs, grease and dirt can congregate under long nails. So give your nails a trim and then a good wash.

Senior Citizens
As people age, they tend to be less active. They also tend not to do the amount of washing up or cleaning of younger years. When they sit around their hands collect body oils and food scraps which can store quite happily under their fingernails. They also tend not to wash their hands so often. Please help the elderly to keep their hands clean. It is good for their health.

Please wash your hands properly and frequently.

Feet and Leg Problems
Feet and legs are very important to us. They move us from place to place. They take all our weight. They need to be strong to do this.
