Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, (CFS) also known as Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) has been renamed as Systemic Exertion Intolerance Disease or SEID. There is no specific test to confirm a diagnosis for this illness.
This illness by any name is a serious illness, often keeping people housebound or in bed for months or years. Many people have not been diagnosed with it because doctors don't take it seriously or they think it is a psychological illness.
New Guidelines for Diagnosing CFS
CFS or SEID is a mysterious and complicated illness. The panel on medical professionals who were responsible for renaming CFS acknowledged its connection to Epstein Barr virus and have abnormal immune systems. They focused on the post-exertional malaise, that is the exhaustion that comes from just doing anything. Only people with this illness understand the deep, almost bone destroying exhaustion that affects the whole body.
This was released in February 2015.
