We NEED Magnesium in our body.
Magnesium is an essential mineral that we need to keep our body healthy. There are a number of major minerals that we need and some minerals we need in only small amounts. These are called trace elements.
Major benefit from magnesium are:
It helps our heart, muscles and kidneys
It is a necessary component in the makeup of our bones helping to prevent osteoporosis
Magnesium helps to transmit nerve impulses
It is a good antispasmodic, that is, it helps prevent spasms in our body
It supports women during menopause and with PMS
Magnesium is a good antispasmodic. I have proven its benefits innumerable times for severe cramps in the legs. Taken as a homeopathic remedy it can bring quick relief.
It is also good taken this way for spasms of wheezing and asthma where the lungs constrict.
The best way to take any vitamin or mineral is as part of our food. This is why it is so important to eat well, especially with a variety of fruit and vegetables. Eating well does not mean eating a lot or eating expensive foods. It means selecting the food you need to benefit your body. Magnesium is found in nuts, especially almonds, in fish, whole grains and wheat germ and especially in dark green leafy vegetables.
Most people in our western society today do not eat enough good foods. It is so easy to eat a variety of bad foods which have little nutrient value for us. Therefore it is a good idea to take magnesium as a supplement. Scientists have worked out how much magnesium each person needs. it is decided by their body weight.
Mag phos Tissue Salts
Other ways to take extra magnesium are by Cell Salts. These are also called Tissue Salts or Schuessler Cell Salts. These can be bought in the health food store. Magnesium Cell Salts, called Mag phos, are a safe and easy remedy to use for any spasms in the body eg sneezing, coughing, migraines, leg or stomach cramps, asthma. Mag phos Tissue Salts can be bought as a tablet that is sucked, a cream to rub onto the affected part or as an oral spray.
Do not stop taking any medication you are on for these illnesses. You can safely add Cell Salts as needed.
Homeopathic Mag phos is much stronger than Cell Salts. It can work very quickly to give great relief. It comes in different strengths or potencies. The lower strengths can sometimes be bought in a pharmacy or health food store. For higher strengths or potencies you need to contact your Homeopath or Naturaopath. Mag phos can be effective if the affected part is better from warmth. This means is a cramp better from a warm compress, or asthma better in warm air. If it is better from cold then homeopathic Mag phos will not work for you.
