Teens and women who smoke SMELL
I have always had trouble with smokers. The smoke from their cigarettes is the one thing that can still make me cough and wheeze. Any slight whiff of smoke in a restaurant or walking past people in the street is bad for me.
Television Ads about Smoking
I watch the advertisements for cigarettes on the television and cringe at the thought that some young people may think its 'sexy' or 'with it' or want to 'be in the crowd'.
I watch the adds against smoking and wonder if they will help the people who really need the help or are they just a panacaea for those who can then say 'We are trying to stop then but they just won't listen.'
Can You Smell it Too?
When I walk in a shopping centre I can often tell when walking past someone if they are a smoker. THEY SMELL
I need have no other indication that they are smokers, they mean nothing to me other than they are another human being. I do not even look at them as I pass. Yet I can tell that they are a cigarette smoker. My sense of smell tells me this and I am revolted.
Can We Stop Teenagers from taking up Smoking?
Teenage girls are one of the major groups that are taking up smoking.
How do we stop them?
Are they going to listen when we tell them that in 30 years or so they might get lung cancer?
That in 30 years or so they will cough like old men with a bad chest infection?
That in 30 years or so their pretty young voice will have turned deep and gravelly like an old man's?
They are not interested in 30 years or so. They are interested in NOW?
Teenage girls and young women want to smell pretty. Look at the money the perfume industry makes. Who wears their perfume? Women.
Tell these teenage girls, young women and older women who smoke that they SMELL from the cigarette smoke.
That is in the here and now.
They might just listen.
