It is important to clean hands if we have poor health, for whatever reason. Hands are used for everything, from washing, to dressing, to eating, to working. Along the way, they collect germs from all sorts of places.
When we are unwell, whether we have a cold or cancer or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), we have more germs on our hands. We pick up the germs of others through handshakes, taps in wash basins or handrails on an elevator.
In Hong Kong, there were ladies whose job it was to clean the handrails at railway stations to try to stop cross contamination so that people would not get ill. Cutting down on germs is important to staying healthy.
When we are very ill and in bed, we are not continually washing our hands. It is enough to get to the bathroom occasionally. A quick rinse under the tap and quickly back to bed. Germs build up on our hands.
Generally speaking, I find women better at keeping their hands clean. They wash their hands when doing the washing up. Women may give their hands a good wash in the bathroom. They also spend some time in the laundry doing the washing. There is always a job needing to be done with water.
Men on the other hand, tend not to do these mundane chores and are not as aware of keeping their hands clean. Men should always give their hands a good wash after going to the toilet, a proper wash.
Washing the Hair
When we wash our hair, our hands get a good clean. However many people do not wash their hair every day. Also many men do not have hair to wash. So it is very important to wash your hands every day. If you do it in the shower you can give a good scrub all the way up the forearm as well. Keep those germs at bay.
Men tend to shake hands, a good way to pass on some germs. Women tend not to shake hands so much.
In a hospital where their premature babies were cared for the babies kept getting infections. It was traced down to the nurses having long fingernails. All sorts of bugs, grease and dirt can congregate under long nails. So give your nails a trim and then a good wash.
As people age, they tend to be less active. They also tend not to do the amount of washing up or cleaning of younger years. When they sit around their hands collect body oils and food scraps which can store quite happily under their fingernails. They also tend not to wash their hands so often. Please help the elderly to keep their hands clean. It is good for their health.
Please wash your hands properly and frequently.
Co-enzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is found in our cells. It is the fuel we need to make energy. Without enough CoQ10 we get tired and exhausted.
Our energy is made in the mitochondria, little centres in our cells that are busily making energy for our body to keep going.
People with CFS have very low energy. Studies have been conducted about the effects of CoQ10 in people with different illnesses.
Fibromyalgia (FM) is similar to CFS. CFS is also called ME/CFS or CFIDS depending on which country you are in. The latest name used for this illness is Systemic Exertion Intolerance Disease or SEID. People with one of these illnesses may also be diagnosed with the other or the doctor cannot make up his mind which illness it is.
The study found benefits when the people with FM took supplements of CoQ10. There was a significant reduction of symptoms.
It was found that taking black pepper along with the CoQ10 increased the absorption rate of CoQ10.
Levels supplemented in this study were 300mg CoQ10 daily. This was found to be safe and suitable supplement for many patients.
In the study it was found that CoQ10 also eased migraines in some people. They took it at the rate of 200-300mg daily. It needed to be taken for 3 months before benefits were noticed.
If you are deficient in CoQ10, reserves have to be built up. The mitochondria in the cells need the fuel to make energy. When the cells are firing correctly, other areas in your body will start to come into balance.
CoQ10 and Aging
Older people have less energy than younger people. It has been found that as they age, people have less CoQ10 in their body. It is a good idea for older people to supplement with CoQ10 to keep their energy going.

Do You Suffer from Swollen or Tired Legs?
Legs can be tired, cramping or swollen
Many people have lots of problems with their legs. They may be
Legs can have
Butcher's Broom is a supplement that benefits the legs. It works by improving the circulation in the legs. The veins in the legs need to pump the blood in the legs back up to the heart. The little valves in the veins get pretty tired in some people and need some help.
Butcher's Broom helps to strengthen these veins. This means that the blood is sent back to the heart more quickly. The blood picks up oxygen from the lungs and then is able to carry more oxygen to the body.
This means that that there is not enough blood in the veins.
Symptoms of Venous Insufficiency
Improving the Brain
Because of its effects on the veins and the blood, Butcher's Broom can also affect the brain bringing more oxygenated blood to it.
Many older people have trouble with their legs. Many do do not or cannot move around enough. The less we move the more problems we have. If your legs swell make sure to rest them each day by elevating them. Don't sit with them hanging down all the time.
If you are taking any blood thinning medication or have serious problems with your legs, always get medical support before beginning taking this supplement.
This article is meant for information purposes only and not meant as medical information on the treatment of your health.
Continued sitting is not good for us
Movement is much better for us. When we sit we do not contract our muscles. Therefore our muscles get no exercise. When our muscles get no exercise we become weak.
When our muscles contract it helps our body to clear the blood sugar and fats.
If we eat a meal that is high in calories it raises our blood sugar levels.
Researchers have found that when we sit for long periods our blood sugar stays high for hours.
High Blood Sugar Levels Bring on Inflammation
High glucose levels, that is, high blood sugar, can lead to inflammation.
When this happens continuously it can lead to inflammation in the body. Inflammation in the body can lead to all sorts of major illnesses, for example, diabetes, arthritis, heart disease and cancer.
How to Lower our Blood Sugar
For people who sit a lot, a simple way to lower our blood sugar is to get up and walk for two minutes every twenty minutes. A slow walk will do. It does not have to be a fast walk.
Just walking around the office, to the toilet, or a short walk in the open air -
whatever suits your circumstances - will help your muscles to contract, so
lowering your blood sugar by up to 30 per cent.
Who is at risk of Inflammation?
People at risk of inflammation in their body are not just unhealthy people. Children sit in classrooms all day. Many people sit at desks all day, drive cars and trucks all day or are passengers in cars, trucks, trains and buses.
Not many of us even do a lot of walking these days. We all try to make things easier on our body. We would be much healthier is we parked our car a little further away from where we are going, and walked a bit further and more often throughout the day.
The Elderly and Inflammation
It is a normal sight to see elderly people in nursing homes just sitting around. Now I know many of them just cannot get up and walk. However for the ones who are able to, they should be encouraged to go for a little walk every half an hour or so. It strengthens their muscles and gets their blood moving, so stopping inflammation from increasing.
Exercise in the Evening
Day time is not the only time we are seated for hours. Today it is normal for people to park themselves in front of the telly for hours on end each evening. With remote controls, switching channels is an easy movement of the thumb. Gone are the days when we had to get up and walk to the telly to change the channels or the volume. Who even remembers that we used to do it?
So, in the evening, when you are resting or on the computer or studying, get up every twenty minutes and do a little movement. Bring your exercise bike into the room where you watch the telly. Ride it for two minutes every twenty minutes.
Put the alarm of your mobile phone for every twenty minutes to remind you. Use technology not only to keep us seated but also to get us moving.
Wear clothing from natural fibres where possible
Usually when we think of allergies we think of food allergies but we can also be allergic to the clothing we wear.
When our grandparents and great grandparents were alive and living their lives to the full, just like we are today, all their clothing was made out of natural materials - cotton, wool and linen. Some lucky young ladies had clothing made from silk and poorer people may have had clothes made from hemp or other coarse plant type weaves.
Today when we go into any clothing shop, the majority of clothing is made from synthetics.
What are Synthetic Materials?
Synthetics are fibres made from substances that are not natural. These major synthetics are polyester, nylon, acetate, viscose, acrylic, saran, spandex, orlon and rayon. Most synthetics are made from petrochemicals. What else is made from petrochemicals? Petrol or gasoline for your car. That's right, your clothes are related to the fuel you put in your car.
Synthetic fibres melt and stick to the skin if they burn. They also cause static electricity to build up in the body. This electrical charge can cause irritation of the skin. Synthetic fibres can make you overheat - remember they do not let moisture escape, and they also make you cold when they get wet.
Best Fibres to Use
Natural fibres are the best to use. These include cotton and wool worn by our ancestors. Science today has helped manufacturers refine the ways these fibres and yarns are made and so give us better end products. Other natural fibres to look out for are silk, linen, bamboo, cashmere, alpaca and leather.
The regular practice of Qi Gong brings serenity and health
Qi Gong for Health
The benefits of Tai Chi are becoming known around the world. People are beginning to practice it more often in the western society. Millions of people in China have benefited from its health promoting exercise for centuries. It is common to see people gather together in China to do their regular exercise, especially early in the morning before their work day begins.
Qi gong and the Meridians
Qi Gong is a lesser known form of tai chi in the Western society. Some say Tai chi is a form of Qi Gong. Qi means energy or life force. I have talked about the energy flowing through the meridians in our body before. Meridians are invisible channels through which this energy travels. Qi is the name the Chinese give to describe this energy.
Qi travels around the whole body, not just a part of it. It affects the whole person. Therefore when some part of our body is blocked with emotions, the energy to this area is blocked and becomes stagnant. Think of the example when someone is blocked with grief and cannot express themselves - the throat is blocked and the words will not come out.
The practising of qi gong helps to unblock these areas, opening up the channels for the energy to flow again.
'The gentle, rhythmic movements of Qigong reduce stress, build stamina, increase vitality, and enhance the immune system. It has also been found to improve cardiovascular, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic and digestive functions.' (See link below)
Qi Gong and the Emotions
Our emotions as well as our physical health and the state of our mind can all be influenced for the better by the regular practice of Tai chi or Qi Gong.
The Chinese medicine system treats the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual parts of our systen as a whole. Illness is a result of blockages of the energy or imbalances in the whole person.
Qi gong helps calm the mind. It is a set of simple, meditative exercises combined with the breath and a focus of intention. It helps us to keep healthy or become healthy. It helps reduce stress when practised regularly.
Qi gong and Tai chi are especially good for seniors. It improves the balance, strengthens the legs and the breathing. Regular practice has a benefit for the elderly helping to lessen the number of falls they have.
Tai Chi in China
We have been priviledged to spend a few hours watching the best people in Tai Chi in the world practising their routines. They practice 8 hous a day every day and are the fittest people and most energetic, all from tai chi.
I encourage you to seek out a class near you to get you started. Usually the people involved in Tai chi and Qi gong are lovely people.
The flowers from this willow tree can help ease our emotions
Inflammation and Emotions
Scientists have studied the relationship of inflammation and our emotions. The have found some inflammatory markers in our body that are tied to stress, depression and other negative emotions.
Inflammatory markers can be measured in our blood. Extra protein is given off from the site of the inflammation. These are the inflammatory markers.
Stress, Depression and Inflammation
People who are stressed or depressed have the same kind of inflammatory markers as people who have inflammation of part of their body. Therefore it is always important to treat the person emotionally. High levels of inflammatory markers are found in frail older adults.
Emotions can be treated naturally and gently with Flower Esences. In the 1920s, Dr Bach, a famed doctor and surgeon of his time in London found a different way to help people. He used the energy of flowers and trees. These worked so well that he found they not only helped people emotionally but also physically. Since then his work has travelled around the world.
Negative Emotions and Pain
Negative emotions have long been tied to arthritis and there is evidence that they can cause the physical symptom of pain. There are many negative emotions including anger, hostility, irritability, resentment, jealousy, shame and fear.
Agrimony The person needing argimony suppresses or denies their feelings and can become addictive.
Beech This remedy helps people who are critical of others and intolerant of themselves. In the past they have not been allowed to express anger. The part of their body that is affected is around the throat, neck and shoulders and chest.
Chicory The person needing chicory feels they are a victim. Their physical problems centre around the mucous membranes, sinuses and bronchiole tubes in the lungs.
Holly Strong emotions are felt here. The person needing this remedy will feel hate, jealousy, rivalry and suspicion or vengeance. They have no compassion. They tend to get boils, skin eruptions and have chronic swollen glands.
Impatiens Feeling tense, irritable, impatient or argumentative? Then you may benefit from this essence. These people tend to have problems with the colon.
Vine The person needing this remedy may be very angry and controlling. They experience rashes, pain and infections.
Willow People that can benefit from this essence feel bitterness and resentment and find it difficult to forgive. They experience colds and infections in their sinuses, ears and bronchial tubes.
Following are just some of my other articles on how flower essences can help you.
I hope you find a flower essence that can help you. To be human is to need help. There are no perfect human beings around yet. Let's work toward it together.
Use environmentally friendly cleaners
Environmentally Friendly Cleaners
Water Bi-carbonate of Soda Vinegar
The best thing to use to clean is water. We are very lucky in our Western society that we have clean water and enough water to be able to clean with.
Add to this Bi-carbonate of soda, or often called carb
soda. You will fine bi-carbonate of soda readily available in the supermarket. It is not expensive.
Who should use Environmentally Friendly Products?
If you care for the environment of our world, EVERYBODY should use these products.
I know most people are hoodwinked by the big chemical companies who make all the cleaning products. After all these products have pretty labels, pretty colours and pretty perfumes (to some).
However there are some people who definitely should use any natural products. These are people with allergies, asthma, hay fever, eczema, a weakened immune system, any illness, especially major illness and any parents with young children. The elderly also come in this group, also people in
Why would you want to submit your baby or toddler or young school age child to chemicals in their surrounding? Their young body is just forming. They do not need to be riddled with chemicals in their system. If you keep your young children safe from chemicals as much as you can while they are at home, which is probably up to 16 hours a day, they will be better able to withstand to the onslaught when they are at school.
You are the guardian of your young child! Take care.
For marks that just will not move with water, sprinkle on some carb soda then rub with a damp cloth. Repeat if needed. If this does not move them, pour vinegar over them, let it sit for a while. Wipe off. If the stain is still there, reapply the carb soda.
For a sparkling sink, sprinkle carb soda onto a damp cloth and scrub the sink. Use an old toothbrush around the drain. Scrub down into the pipe of the drain with your toothbrush too. It's amazing what gunk attaches itself to the inside of this pipe. Keeping it clean can help eliminate odours. Pour carb soda down the drain then pour some vinegar down after it. It will bubble up. This is okay. This will also help loosen the gunk in the drain. Rinse clean.
As for the bench, use water and dishwashing detergent. Add carb soda to get off the
Now, DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE PROPRIETARY OVEN CLEANERS. They are dangerous stuff for people with allergies. Have the oven warm, not hot. Sprinkle the base of the oven with carb soda then pour on some vinegar. When the two mix together they will bubble. This is okay. mix these into paste on the floor of the oven and leave for an hour or so. The gunk will be softened and will come off more
easily. Repeat as often as needed.
One lady I know lost her voice totally for weeks every time she used oven cleaners, or when she went near new carpet.
My Favourite Environmentally Friendly Cleaner
My favourite cleaner is a little hand held steamer. All it uses is water which is heated to boiling point. When water boils it becomes steam. Steam kills off bacteria and cleans amazingly with NO CHEMICALS.
Hand held steam cleaners are not expensive and in my view, worth using. They are environmentally friedly, using no chemicals.
Glass dropper bottles with black nitrile bulbs
Flower Essence Packaging
Because the energy of the flowers is held in water, traditionally flower essences have been packaged in little dark brown glass bottles with a glass dropper and a rubber bulb on top of the bottle.
Squeeze the bulb of the dropper, let it go, and liquid from in the bottle will go up into the glass section of the dropper.
How to take Flower Essences
Tip your head back, open your mouth and lift up your tongue (no, not with your fingers). Now, holding the glass dropper by the rubber bulb, drip a few drops of liquid under your tongue.
Do not touch the glass dropper with your lips or tongue because then you will transfer germs into the liquid when it is reinserted back into the bottle of liquid.
The water holding the flower energy can gradually go murky and sometimes get floaties in it if you continually suck on the glass dropper. I have seen this happen, especially with elderly people. The same can happen if young children suck on the dropper.
If you are very allergic to rubber or latex, you may have difficulty with the rubber dropper. Red rubber tops are made from latex as far as I know. You will sometimes see black rubber droppers. These are not rubber but made from nitrile which is safe for people with a latex allergy to use. It all depends how sensitive you are.
