Pain relief, many names, one product:
All these names are talking about the same drug for pain relief.
'What's in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;'
Spoken by Juliet
from Romeo and Juliet
by William Wordsworth
Because this drug, which is used for pain relief around the world, is used so frequently. people become blase about it. It was the same with aspirin until it was realized that it can cause bleeding of ulcers and toxicity to kidneys and liver.
Each tablet contains 500mg paracetamol (acetaminophen, Tylenol)
Dosage should not exceed 4000mg daily, that's 8 tablets a day.
For chronic use, take no more than 2000 to 3000mg daily. That is 4-6 tablets a day.
Chronic use at a high level can cause liver or kidney problems.
Doses of 1000mg daily of paracetamol (acetaminophen, Tylenol), that's only 2 tablets, depletes a major antioxidant called glutathione. We desperately need glutathione in our body. It is a master antioxidant and detoxifier. It strengthens the immune system and fights inflammation.
Taking glutathione does not help but we can take N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC). Our body uses NAC to make glutathione. So when taking more than a couple of tablets of paracetamol (acetaminophen, Tylenol) in a day, it is also a good idea to take a capsule of NAC. These usually come in 500mg -650mg capsules.
If you can have dairy products, high quality whey protein has also been shown to raise glutathione levels.
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) US, 56,000 people presented to hospital emergency rooms with serious side effects from accidental overdosing of paracetamol (acetaminophen, Tylenol). There are also 100, yes, 100 deaths a year from this drug that is sold in supermarkets and touted as being everybody's friend.
Colic is one of the biggest problems parents have with new babies.
Colic is when babies have air that is trapped in their digestive system. This can be in their stomach or in their bowels. This air can cause great pain in these poor little babies.
For decades Gripe water has been a favourite natural remedy used by Mums. It helps release the air from the stomach.
I have a theory that may help. This has been formulated from decades of experience with babies.
Let’s look at some background information first.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Irritable Bowel Syndrome, also known as IBS is a great problem for many people throughout the world.
Symptoms of IBS are lots of
• wind in the bowel
• gut pain
In recent years researchers have found that people with IBS are adversely affected by different natural sugars in some foods, both fruit and vegetable. Therefore, if people with IBS avoid certain foods, these symptoms can lessen or be avoided.
Milk contains galactose, one of the sugars that can cause excessive wind, nausea and diarrhoea. Many years ago this was not as much of a problem as it is today. With the power of marketing, people are drinking lots of milk and eating milk products these days.
• coffee milk
• baby formula
and thousands of products that contain milk in their product.
Once babies were fed breast milk by their mothers. Those mothers did not have the amount of milk in their diet that mothers have today. In the last fifty years many babies were reared on baby formula, not their mother's milk. Baby formula is made from cow's milk which has specifically been produced to feed baby calves, not baby humans.
So I believe that one of the problems that babies suffer from a lot of colic is the milk they or their mother's drink. Lacteeze is a product that can convert the lactose in the milk into more digestible form. Adding these drops to the baby's formula or before a feed from their mother if she has lots of milk products, can ease colic in some babies.
Researchers have been working out which foods can affect people with IBS. Some people are affected by only one type of sugar while other may be affected by different combinations or all of the sugars.
When babies are started on solid food, it would make sense to me to start them on foods which are safe from these natural sugars which may affect them.
The gut of babies is very delicate. We care for their skin ever so carefully yet we do not consider their inner organs. These are even more delicate.
What foods are free from or very low in these natural sugars?
• lactose free milk products
Foods to beware of
Legumes, dried beans, lentils, green peas, sweet corn, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, milk and milk products, wheat and rye, onions and garlic

It is my idea that babies should not be started on solid food until they are at least 6 months. One of my children was 12 months old before he had any food except breast milk. He thrived.
I have seen babies turn from happy healthy breastfed babies into neurotic screaming babies that were affected for years by the addition of cow’s milk to their diet. I have seen parents turn into sleepless wrecks by these babies and young children who were in such pain as a result of what the Western world would tell you was a good healthy diet. I therefore question general thought on the subject.
Always have your baby checked out by the medical profession if you think there is something wrong. There are doctors, maternal and child health care nurses and dietitians.
In the Alternative health field there are naturopaths and homeopaths and other professionals ready to help you. Do research yourself if you are not happy with their recommendations. Keep searching until you find the information you need to ease your baby. Happy baby, Happy parents.
Do You Suffer from Swollen or Tired Legs?
Legs can be tired, cramping or swollen
Many people have lots of problems with their legs. They may be
Legs can have
Butcher's Broom is a supplement that benefits the legs. It works by improving the circulation in the legs. The veins in the legs need to pump the blood in the legs back up to the heart. The little valves in the veins get pretty tired in some people and need some help.
Butcher's Broom helps to strengthen these veins. This means that the blood is sent back to the heart more quickly. The blood picks up oxygen from the lungs and then is able to carry more oxygen to the body.
This means that that there is not enough blood in the veins.
Symptoms of Venous Insufficiency
Improving the Brain
Because of its effects on the veins and the blood, Butcher's Broom can also affect the brain bringing more oxygenated blood to it.
Many older people have trouble with their legs. Many do do not or cannot move around enough. The less we move the more problems we have. If your legs swell make sure to rest them each day by elevating them. Don't sit with them hanging down all the time.
If you are taking any blood thinning medication or have serious problems with your legs, always get medical support before beginning taking this supplement.

Gentle Tai Chi Practice
Tai Chi is a gentle practice that helps to ease aches and pains. It is a gentle form of exercise. Because of its gentle movements it is especially suited to the elderly although it can be done by anyone, from children to adults. Children often prefer the more active form of tai chi - Kung Fu. They are also familiar with this through the popular film of the same name.
Qi Gong is another form of Tai Chi. It focuses more on breathing and slow movement. Its movements focus more on the arms than combining legs and arms as in tai chi.
How does Tai Chi Work?
The slow movements of tai chi and qi gong are designed to open up the meridians, the energy channels of the body. When these channels are open, the energy can flow easily, thus clearing any blockages or stagnant energy. When there is blocked energy we get aches and pains and other symptoms of ill health.
The mind is part of the whole person. Remembering the sequence of moves of tai chi also helps the mind. People look at others doing tai chi and qi gong. It looks so easy and simple. However trying to remember all the moves can be challenging.
It is a much better idea to be able to remember the sequence of moves because then you can do tai chi and qi gong wherever you are and at any time in your life. If you rely only on 'follow the leader' type classes, you have to be in the class to do the moves, otherwise you cannot remember them for yourself.
Scientific Studies to Prove the Health Benefits
These gentle Chinese forms of exercise have been proven to help the body and the mind. Much study has been done on them at universities both in China and in the West to scientifically prove the health benefits. Because Tai chi challenges the memory, it is good exercise for the brain. Any exercise for the brain helps to ward off Alzheimer's Disease. There are forms of tai chi developed especially for Diabetes and Arthritis although any form of tai chi or qi gong will benefit the body. There are also specific forms of medical qi gong.
When Annie started doing tai chi she had great difficulty with her shoulders as well as lots of other parts of her. She had been ill for some time. It was hard to lift her arms very far and her shoulders hurt with the movement. She used to get angry at having to be shown how to do the exercises all the time. She used to get angry at herself because she could not remember, even immediately after she had been shown.
However, Annie turned up to classes each week. Sometimes she would not appear when things got too much for her. But then she was there again, ready to learn the next movement.
Gradually her shoulders loosened up and did not hurt anymore. Slowly her mind began to work and she found she could remember some of the moves. After each achievement, the next one was not so far away.
It became easier and easier. Her body loosened up, she lost her anger. and she was so happy that she had achieved. Now she can do tai chi every day at home or wherever she is. She found that it was a good idea to do the movements regularly to keep her body supple as it warded off most of her aches and pains.
Annie found that when she started the class each week she was not feeling well but as she performed the exercises her mood changed and by the end of the class she was feeling great. When this happened Annie became to come to classes more regularly because she knew that, even though she didn't feel great at the start, she soon would.
Finding a Good Teacher
It is worth finding someone who can guide you through tai chi. You will get so much more information about how to do the movements and why they are done in a particular sequence.
If you are in pain you should adjust the movements so that they are comfortable for you. If you find a considerate teacher, he/she will help you to do this so that they do not cause you extra pain. Tai chi exercises can also be adjusted for people in wheelchairs.
Have a great day!

Science is now Proving the Knowledge
There are many natural supplements that can help relieve inflammation. These have been tried and tested over the centuries and increasingly studies have been done on them to prove the knowledge of these substances.
Many of these natural foods or medicines have other properties besides anti inflammatory power. They may be anti bacterial, anti-viral etc.
Because these natural medicines are made from the whole plant, they do not have the side effects that many Western medicines have. The plants that these natural substances come from have very many ingredients. There may be one that, if taken on its own would cause side effects. But Nature is wonderful, and in these plants that are helpful to us, it also puts other ingredients that will counter any side effects.
Now, plants cannot be patented. They come already made, given to us freely by Nature.
Pharmaceutical companies cannot make much money without a patent so they take out the one ingredient in the plant that they think is the beneficial one, and ignore the rest. Therefore, the medicines they make from the plants do not have the counter checks and balances.
Some beneficial natural medicines that may help us with inflammation are as follows.
This is a natural NSAID, that is it has natural non-steroidal properties similar to Ibuprofen. It enhances the immune system. It has been clinically proven to help rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
Aloe Vera is a well known plant that is well proven for its beneficial effects. When taken internally it can help gastrointestinal inflammation and arthritis. It can also be applied to the skin to ease inflammation of the skin or arthritic pains. Aloe vera has all the essential glyconutrients for our body. This is why it is such a wonderful healer.
Tumeric root extract or Curcumin is a natural COX-2 inhibitor. It has similar anti-inflammatory effects to non-steroidal drugs but without the side effects. It can help arthritis and immune system disorders.
White Willow Bark
White willow bark eases pain and inflammation. It contains salicin. Aspro or Aspirin was made out of it but they did not use the whole ingredients (remember they couldn't patent it then). This remedy does not cause bleeding like Aspirin. It is good for arthritis and other pain.
I hope you find some of these can help you with inflammation and the pain resulting from it.
Pain can be debilitating
Pain comes in many types and strengths. There is not just pain.
For those of us who experience severe and long lasting pain, it is very debilitating. Thankfully, most of us do not experience this level of pain.
Pain is described in many ways. Headache, aching, pain, soreness, back ache are different ways of saying where the pain is and that it hurts.
There is one thing that is true to all pain. No-one else knows how severe the pain is, just as they so not know how tired or exhausted someone else is.
What is pain telling us?
Pain is telling us that something is wrong with our body. We should listen to this and try to relieve it before the pain gets debilitating.
Is there something physical that is causing the pain, something that you are doing? Is it something in your environment that is causing the pain? Can you do anything about either of these things? Can you take yourself away from these situations so that the pain disappears?
Is it an illness that is causing something in your body to hurt?
Different Types of Pain
There are many different words we use to describe pain.
Homeopathy and Pain
Homeopathy takes these types of pain and uses different remedies for different types of pain.
Just looking at pain in the lower limbs, that is, the legs, some types of pain have many more remedies available to treat them.
This is why I call Homeopathy the Designer medicine. From thousands of remedies, your practitioner can find certain remedies that will suit all your symptoms. Your overall symptoms are not the same as anybody else's symptoms. We are individual.
After saying that, I am going to suggest a remedy that may help many different types of pain in the legs. This is called Rhus tox.
Rhus tox is a great remedy if you find it difficult on starting to move. Once you get moving you sort of limber up and get going. I think of Rhus tox as being the oil that is squirted onto rusty hinges - it loosens things up. For stiffness on first movement, getting easier as movement progresses, whether in minutes or an hour, think Rhus tox.
It's good for joints, tendons, connective tissue and bone pain from over exertion, and also good for itchy, blistery rashes. A great remedy.
