Jonathan Wright MD says most medicine used for asthma causes side effects. Even with modern medicine, many people still have bad asthma or low level of breathing difficulties.
When having an attack, muscles around the airways tighten up and less air gets in. Inflammation increases, airways become swollen and narrow and it gets harder to breathe. The person feels they are suffocating. In severe cases not enough oxygen gets to vital organs. You can die from asthma. 4000-5000 people die from it each year. For 7000 more people (in the US), it is a contributing factor towards their death.
Asthma is a chronic disease affecting the pathways that carry air in and out of the lungs. The airways become inflamed and sensitive to substances in the air, food or environment. It is an immunological problem. The immune system overreacts and leads to inflammation in the lungs and narrowing of air passages.
Allergies and asthma are inflammatory disorders. Eat a diet high in natural anti inflammatory foods, lots of veggies and some fruit.
Quercetin helps with asthma. The ‘Nutrition in Cancer ‘ journal called quercetin ‘the most important flavonoid ‘. It is a powerful anti inflammatory. It helps calm allergies and asthma. It is found in onions, apples, berries, tea, red wine and supplements. Polyphenols are in fruits and vegetables. Flavonoids are a class of polyphenols.
Quercetin has a unique molecular structure that impacts the immune system and reacts against cancer cells. It Is recommended by David Neiman PhD.
High consumption of apples can protect against asthma because of the quercetin in the peel. Quercetin is linked to reduction in heart disease and lung cancer. It has a protective effect
*Quercetin stabilises the mast cells that puts out histamine.
Quercetin and bromelain is a good combination.
Asthma and allergies are related to emotional stress. Anxiety and stress are common asthma triggers. They make the symptoms of an asthma attack worse. Stress management is important.
Buteyko breathing is good for asthma.
Food or pollens can trigger asthma. Dairy products are the worst, then eggs, chocolate, wheat, corn, citrus fruit and fish and tartrazine (yellow dye #5).
Supplements for Asthma
Quercetin 500mg twice daily with bromelain
Magnesium 300-600 mg daily
Vitamin B6 50-200mg daily. Vitamin C 1000-3000 mg daily
Selenium 200 mcg daily
High Cholesterol levels are said to be a high indicator for the risk of Cardiovascular Disease. Doctors are quick to prescribe Statin drugs to lower cholesterol. There are different varieties of these drugs. If one doesn't suit you because of the side effects, they will give you another, then another.
Once you are on the statin drug, you will be on it the rest of your life.
Drug companies are very happy to supply you, at your cost.
Recognised Side Effects of Statin Drugs
The Mayo Clinic recognises that there can be many and varied side effects from statin drugs. Some of them are serious.
Muscle pain and damage
The most common statin side effect is muscle pain. This can be soreness, tiredness or weakness in your muscles. The pain varies from mild discomfort to severe. If taken over an extended time, it can affect the muscles of the heart. Liver and kidneys can be affected.
Some people taking a statin may develop nausea, gas, diarrhea or constipation after taking a statin. These side effects are rare.
Rash or Flushing
Some people may experience rash or flushing of the skin.
Increased blood sugar or type 2 diabetes
It's possible your blood sugar (blood glucose) level may increase when you take a statin, which may lead to developing type 2 diabetes. The risk is small but important enough that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning on statin labels regarding blood glucose levels and diabetes.
Neurological side effects
The FDA warns on statin labels that some people have developed memory loss or confusion while taking statins.
Who is more at risk?
Risk factors include:
Coenzyme Q10, CoQ10 for short, is an important supplement that protects the muscles of the heart. If you are taking statin drugs, also take CoQ10. Studies show it will protect your heart.
We have a friend who had a heart problem. He was given statin drugs to lower his cholesterol. Ten years later he had lost the muscles in his legs. His heart muscle had also weakened dangerously. He was at great risk. Eventually, after visiting many doctors, en enlightened cardiologist put him on Co Q10. He is still alive after three years.
This short video tells you more about cholesterol.
Co-enzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is found in our cells. It is the fuel we need to make energy. Without enough CoQ10 we get tired and exhausted.
Our energy is made in the mitochondria, little centres in our cells that are busily making energy for our body to keep going.
People with CFS have very low energy. Studies have been conducted about the effects of CoQ10 in people with different illnesses.
Fibromyalgia (FM) is similar to CFS. CFS is also called ME/CFS or CFIDS depending on which country you are in. The latest name used for this illness is Systemic Exertion Intolerance Disease or SEID. People with one of these illnesses may also be diagnosed with the other or the doctor cannot make up his mind which illness it is.
The study found benefits when the people with FM took supplements of CoQ10. There was a significant reduction of symptoms.
It was found that taking black pepper along with the CoQ10 increased the absorption rate of CoQ10.
Levels supplemented in this study were 300mg CoQ10 daily. This was found to be safe and suitable supplement for many patients.
In the study it was found that CoQ10 also eased migraines in some people. They took it at the rate of 200-300mg daily. It needed to be taken for 3 months before benefits were noticed.
If you are deficient in CoQ10, reserves have to be built up. The mitochondria in the cells need the fuel to make energy. When the cells are firing correctly, other areas in your body will start to come into balance.
CoQ10 and Aging
Older people have less energy than younger people. It has been found that as they age, people have less CoQ10 in their body. It is a good idea for older people to supplement with CoQ10 to keep their energy going.

Magnesium and Migraines
Chronic Fatigue can be a debilitating illness. The problem is the medical profession for years did not even believe it was an illness because they could not prove the patient had anything wrong with them from their tests. This put the onus back on the patient to find some relief for themselves. They turned to the Alternative health professionals who would at least listen to them.
Over the last thirty or forty years as more and more people present with similar symptoms, testing has improved. Some professionals have taken an interest in the health of these sensitive people. Bless them.
There is now a growing body of knowledge about these mysterious illnesses - Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) sometimes called CFIDS or ME in other countries. Adrenal Fatigue is term given to some sections of these illnesses also.
During my research and after reading a book by Dr Wilson about Adrenal Fatigue (the same symptoms as I had) I came across a Facebook (FB) group in the US with thousands of people suffering from this illness. They prefer to heal their body with natural remedies instead of putting yet more chemicals into their system.
As there were a lot of people there from Australia, I started a FB group for Australians to help each other. I have just been amazed at the response and the growing number of people who are asking to join. Everyday more people are asking to join. Now we have people from around the world searching for information here too.
So, if you are looking for a supportive environment to learn about the symptoms of your illness like debilitating exhaustion, brain fog or allergies you just might find some answers in Adrenal Fatigue Recovery, Australia.
Recovering from Major Illness
Natural supplements are a great way to improve our health especially if we are or have been very unwell. The medical profession have difficulty in diagnosing some illnesses. Just because doctors can't find what is wrong with you or put a name to it does not mean that you are not ill. There are many other health professionals who have expertise in other health modalities.
This why my favourite modality is Homeopathy. I call this the 'Designer Medicine'. The remedies are prescribed for you according to your symptoms, not the generalized symptoms of an illness. You may have more than one illness. There are over two thousand remedies.
My favourite supplement is N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC). This supplies the ingredients for our body to make glutathione, the major antioxidant in our body. Glutathione cannot be absorbed in our body if taken as a supplement therefore we need to give our body the basic ingredients to make it. NAC is very good for Depression or Bi Polar. Research studies have been done on this in Australia with positive results. Glutathione is found especially in the heart and the brain as well as all over the body.
Vitamin C is another important antioxidant. We have all heard of the importance of this for many years. We cannot make this vital vitamin in our body so must absorb it in our food or as a supplement. Most people will not get enough of this in their diet so supplementation in important. Vitamin C is found in the fluid in our eyes so to protect these important organs take some Vitamin C every day.
Minerals are the backbone of our body. We all know about Calcium and we know the names of many other minerals we need to keep us healthy. There is chloride, phosphorus, potassium and sodium. We also need iron and many trace elements. Trace elements are needed in very tiny quantities in our body, but we still need them.
What is the best way to get our minerals? By eating vegetables. The minerals have been absorbed by the roots of the vegetables and these are easily absorbed by our body.
Magnesium is my favourite mineral. It is wonderful to ease spasms. Spasms can manifest as cramps in the legs, period cramps, cramps in the gut in Irritable Bowel Syndrome or other bowel illnesses where the bowel goes into spasms. Magnesium also eases sneezing - a spasm, and coughing and asthma. It can help ease a migraine too. It also helps build our bones.
There are different ways to take magnesium.
Next time I will talk about other supplements that may help with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. ME, CFIDS, Fibromyalgia, Adrenal Fatigue the Immune system and Thyroid problems.
Below are some other articles I have written about Magnesium

This eBook takes a natural approach to improving your health, especially if you have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). CFS is also referred to by different names around the world. It is called ME and Fibromyalgia and CFIDS.
Jacob Teitelbaum MD, a well known world expert on CFS, thinks that there may be many causes of CFS/Fibromyalgia. However the most important thing is for people to start to sleep well, control their pain, to start feeling healthy and be part of a community. Dr Teitlebaum had CFS himself as a young man and has specialised in treatment of the illness using a natural approach.
In my ebook I also use a natural approach to improving health. Medical men seemed to have no answers and I was left to myself to find simple, natural things that worked for me. I share this information in my ebook. I tell the story of my experience with CFS/Fibromyalgia. For a long time it seemed that I would not get better but gradually my health improved.
There are different levels of CFS. Some people feel tired for a few months, some are racked with pain in every nook and cranny, joint and muscle of their body and others suffer from prolonged sore throat, sinusitis and chest infections for months or years on end.
Here are some suggestions of different modalities you can try from crystal healing to flower essences to homeopathy to herbs.
You choose. It's your body, your life.
Pain relief, many names, one product:
All these names are talking about the same drug for pain relief.
'What's in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;'
Spoken by Juliet
from Romeo and Juliet
by William Wordsworth
Because this drug, which is used for pain relief around the world, is used so frequently. people become blase about it. It was the same with aspirin until it was realized that it can cause bleeding of ulcers and toxicity to kidneys and liver.
Each tablet contains 500mg paracetamol (acetaminophen, Tylenol)
Dosage should not exceed 4000mg daily, that's 8 tablets a day.
For chronic use, take no more than 2000 to 3000mg daily. That is 4-6 tablets a day.
Chronic use at a high level can cause liver or kidney problems.
Doses of 1000mg daily of paracetamol (acetaminophen, Tylenol), that's only 2 tablets, depletes a major antioxidant called glutathione. We desperately need glutathione in our body. It is a master antioxidant and detoxifier. It strengthens the immune system and fights inflammation.
Taking glutathione does not help but we can take N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC). Our body uses NAC to make glutathione. So when taking more than a couple of tablets of paracetamol (acetaminophen, Tylenol) in a day, it is also a good idea to take a capsule of NAC. These usually come in 500mg -650mg capsules.
If you can have dairy products, high quality whey protein has also been shown to raise glutathione levels.
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) US, 56,000 people presented to hospital emergency rooms with serious side effects from accidental overdosing of paracetamol (acetaminophen, Tylenol). There are also 100, yes, 100 deaths a year from this drug that is sold in supermarkets and touted as being everybody's friend.
Women with CFS, ME, CFIDS or Fibromyalgia may have many other things go wrong with their body. Heavy or prolonged bleeding during their periods is one of these.
As women get older they become less fertile and gradually go into peri-menopause and then into menopause. Menopause means that their monthly period or bleeding ceases. Peri-menopause can also be called pre-menopause.
At this time, some women have very heavy bleeding and/or prolonged bleeding. This is called Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding or DUB by the medical community. It can also be called Menorrhagia meaning heavy menstrual bleeding.
Women with this dysfunction may be helped by Vitamin A and Zinc. Jacob Teitlebaum MD recommends high doses of vitamin A and 25mg of zinc daily for 3 months.
Taking a large dose of vitamin A regularly can be dangerous so take note of the fact that this is only to be taken for a 3 month period. It is best to be guided by your health care practitioner for this.
Vitamin A is fat soluble so does not wash out of your body like water-soluble vitamins C and C. Vitamin A is stored in the fat cells in our body. We all have fat cells no matter how skinny we are.
Other areas to be checked by your health care practitioner for heavy peri-menopausal bleeding are the thyroid and iron levels.
We have iron in our blood and need it to carry the oxygen around in our body. However we can have too much iron and this is dangerous, so don't go taking iron supplements without having a blood test to check your iron levels first.
One safe way to improve your iron levels is to take Ferr phos (Ferrous phosphate) in cell salt form. Cell salts can also be referred to as tissue salts or Schuessler salts after the doctor who discovered this method of healing.
These tissue salt tablets also come in a liquid form where they can be sprayed into the mouth. Depending on the brand, the tissue salts tablets are dissolved in your mouth, not chewed or swallowed whole. Swallow only after they have dissolved.
There are many homeopathic remedies that may help with heavy menstrual bleeding. Some of the main ones are
Colic is one of the biggest problems parents have with new babies.
Colic is when babies have air that is trapped in their digestive system. This can be in their stomach or in their bowels. This air can cause great pain in these poor little babies.
For decades Gripe water has been a favourite natural remedy used by Mums. It helps release the air from the stomach.
I have a theory that may help. This has been formulated from decades of experience with babies.
Let’s look at some background information first.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Irritable Bowel Syndrome, also known as IBS is a great problem for many people throughout the world.
Symptoms of IBS are lots of
• wind in the bowel
• gut pain
In recent years researchers have found that people with IBS are adversely affected by different natural sugars in some foods, both fruit and vegetable. Therefore, if people with IBS avoid certain foods, these symptoms can lessen or be avoided.
Milk contains galactose, one of the sugars that can cause excessive wind, nausea and diarrhoea. Many years ago this was not as much of a problem as it is today. With the power of marketing, people are drinking lots of milk and eating milk products these days.
• coffee milk
• baby formula
and thousands of products that contain milk in their product.
Once babies were fed breast milk by their mothers. Those mothers did not have the amount of milk in their diet that mothers have today. In the last fifty years many babies were reared on baby formula, not their mother's milk. Baby formula is made from cow's milk which has specifically been produced to feed baby calves, not baby humans.
So I believe that one of the problems that babies suffer from a lot of colic is the milk they or their mother's drink. Lacteeze is a product that can convert the lactose in the milk into more digestible form. Adding these drops to the baby's formula or before a feed from their mother if she has lots of milk products, can ease colic in some babies.
Researchers have been working out which foods can affect people with IBS. Some people are affected by only one type of sugar while other may be affected by different combinations or all of the sugars.
When babies are started on solid food, it would make sense to me to start them on foods which are safe from these natural sugars which may affect them.
The gut of babies is very delicate. We care for their skin ever so carefully yet we do not consider their inner organs. These are even more delicate.
What foods are free from or very low in these natural sugars?
• lactose free milk products
Foods to beware of
Legumes, dried beans, lentils, green peas, sweet corn, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, milk and milk products, wheat and rye, onions and garlic

• Low Energy May be Connected to FODMAPs
It is my idea that babies should not be started on solid food until they are at least 6 months. One of my children was 12 months old before he had any food except breast milk. He thrived.
I have seen babies turn from happy healthy breastfed babies into neurotic screaming babies that were affected for years by the addition of cow’s milk to their diet. I have seen parents turn into sleepless wrecks by these babies and young children who were in such pain as a result of what the Western world would tell you was a good healthy diet. I therefore question general thought on the subject.
Always have your baby checked out by the medical profession if you think there is something wrong. There are doctors, maternal and child health care nurses and dietitians.
In the Alternative health field there are naturopaths and homeopaths and other professionals ready to help you. Do research yourself if you are not happy with their recommendations. Keep searching until you find the information you need to ease your baby. Happy baby, Happy parents.
Fatigue is a symptom of an imbalance in your body or mind, or both. It is not an illness in itself. Fatigue can be temporary or chronic. Temporary means that it is short lived, maybe for hours or a day or two. Chronic means that it is around for a long time and does not go away. This may be for weeks, months or years.
People who are diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome have long term fatigue, that is, chronic fatigue. This is an illness that encompasses a group of symptoms. These symptoms may be different for many people, however the over-riding symptom is fatigue.
For some people this fatigue can mean that they cannot work to the same standard that they did previously. For others it may mean that they can only get to work a few hours each day. Others people may have to give up work and can barely manage with general life. And there is the smaller group of people that are so fatigued that they cannot get out of bed for weeks, months or years.
If you are feeling fatigue it is a good idea to visit your medical practitioner to make sure that there is nothing major wrong with you. He/she can detect many things through blood tests these days. If they have no solution for you there are many other avenues that you can follow. But first you need an open mind.
Many people only look to Western medicine to cure all their ills. Many other people in western civilization seek out alternative modalities. Alternative modalities are also called complementary medicine or complementary modalities because they complement, that is, add to general medical treatment. Many people use only these forms of medicine. These modalities encompass the whole body and mind, and do not treat just the one or two symptoms that you might present with to a GP.
Alternative modalities generally prefer preventative treatment and work on strengthening the mind and body and not wait until something goes drastically wrong.
Usually these alternative modalities or treatments do no harm and help people considerably.
What do I Look for in an Alternative Practitioner?
If you decide to look for alternative treatment look for practitioners who have qualifications. Check who has given this qualification. It is also worth noting that there are some modalities where there is nowhere to get qualified. Sometimes you can get great relief from these people also. Use your discernment to decide. Even if the person is not qualified yet you here good reports about them or are getting relief from them, then why not keep seeing them? Why stop just because they do not have a piece of paper to hang on the wall?
Alternative Modalities for YOU to try
Many of these modalities may ease your fatigue. You need to find the right person that you can connect with.
