![]() Alzheimer's Disease where everything in your life is a blur What can we do for Patients with Alzheimer's Disease? We are constantly being told that there is nothing that can be done for anyone with Alzheimer's Disease. When you hear this on the television or the radio, you listen, blink & turn the channel. But the the estimated 18,000,000 people and their loved ones who have to deal with this illness every day of their lives, Alzheimer's Disease in no turning the channel matter. It is there to stay. Looking to the future, our health sytems in the Western world see a time when they will be overwhelmed with an aging population with Alzheimer's Disease. Doctors and researchers worldwide are searching for the cause and cure for this nasty disease. If you have not had any experience with this disease, let me tell you it is insidious. I have watched it progress in someone for over 30 years where it came to its inevitable conclusion. What is its inevitable conclusion? Death. Yes, we all have to die, but no-one wishes to die from this debilitating, wasting, mind numbing disease. The Director of the Nuclear Medicine Department at the Austin Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, recently announced that beta-amyloids are present in all patients with Alzheimer's Disease (AD). This protein amyloid accumulates as a plaque between nerve cells in the brain - it builds up on the walls of the arteries of the brain and this increases the risk of stroke and Dementia. Some doctors in the UK have been looking at a connection between the herpes simplex viruses and AD. The lauric acid and capric acid in coconut oil kills herpes viruses. I have written before about the benefits some people are having from taking coconut oil. It is certainly worth adding to your diet.
